Cancer sucks

Hi! I’m 12 so not exactly a teen, but my doctors are 99% sure I have ALL leukemia. I really don’t want to have cancer, but I have all the symptoms, and the bone marrow biopsy showed cancer cells. I start chemo on Monday. I most likely have ALL, but they aren’t quite sure yet. Any advice?

    Hey there,

Close enough to teen indeed. I’m glad you found your way here so you could know that you are not alone. Who really wants to have cancer, right? Surely, I can say I didn’t. But trust me when I say that you will get through this. If you are asking for some simple advice, I’ve got a few helpful nuggets. Let’s start with my TOP 3.

1.) Take one day at a time – The bad days will not always be bad- just remember to look at the challenges a bit at a time.

2.) Surround yourself with your ‘mojo’. “What is it that makes you happy?” Well, then make sure you’re doing those things throughout your treatment.

3.) Reach out for support and know when to accept it. – Friends, family and others in your life might ask for ways they can help. Feeling their strength around you can make a bad day into a good one. And if they’re not reaching out find a way to let them know how they can.

    Just some ideas.

Hope these were of some help. As a fellow survivor myself I say take this first step with knowledge you are not alone. That’s key.

If you ever need anything we’re here. Have you checked out our Cancer 101 video series? It might be of some help too. There are lots of teens in this space who know what you’re going through and have been through it.

Hold on, you got this. You are stronger than you know.
